She speaks of Gavin Reed and Berwick Kaler also. She says she worked with nastier directors than Milligan. The Body Beneath, The Rats are Coming the Werewolves are Here, Bloodthirsty Butchers, Nightbirds, and The Man with Two Heads have exterior scenes in them shot on location in England. I'm sorry he lied to you on the porch of his house on Orange drive, but as we could see by his subsequent interest in the script for Surgikill, he obviously wasn't in his right mind.

- MIKE JUSTICEMike Justicenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3478737609645206210.post-15944283733422890212012-04-09T00:45:41.191-07:002012-04-09T00:45:41.191-07:00Hi Sherman. I read him the entry in INCREDIBLY STRANGE FILMS, and added that it doesn't mention any films he made in England. The occaision was a meeting to kick off SURGIKILL. If he had pulled off making films in England on his usual budgets, why wouldn't he use that to sell his services? He told me that he never made any films in England, and had no idea how that particular legend got started. As to the English actors, if you know anything about theater, you'll recognize the accents of the actors as being standard stage British most America actors learn doing Shakespere. McDonnough makes my point for me. No, Andy did not fly English actors to Staten Island, since he didn't have money for coffee. If he didn't have money for coffee, how did he finance a foriegn production? Sorry, Jimmy, doesn't wash. Read Thomas Richardson's article in SCREEM #8, or the series Tim Lukas ran over several issues in Video Watchdog. The English films issue is the "poppycock". Andy never made any films in England. He told me that and I believed him. If McDonnough had asked him, Andy would have told him the same thing.
Sherman HirshAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3478737609645206210.post-71312269264287096102010-02-26T07:46:13.466-08:002010-02-26T07:46:13.466-08:00I was never a Milligan fan, but reading Jimmy'...I was never a Milligan fan, but reading Jimmy's book infected me with a bug that caused me to become so deeply fascinated with the man AND his films that I now seek out every ghastly tidbit.

Absolutely, Andy was an artist in the truest sense, one who held to his vision while thumbing his nose at the establishment and status quo. I wish I had known him. It's easy to love Ed Wood because he's a lovable screwball in a wig and angora, but Andy is not so easy to love because he's not at all cuddly. But I'm a fan of Andy now.

54Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3478737609645206210.post-79463514223576633102010-02-25T18:07:00.777-08:002010-02-25T18:07:00.777-08:00Fulcor Lodoff, we couldn't agree more! Milligan was a totally unique super-genius artist who will shine one day larger than Warhol, Morrisey, Cassavettes or any of those other pseudo-avantgardists of the 60s. And Mishkin will be canonized for being Andy's patron, when nobody else would have him.
